Experience an exquisite showcase of "Art Quilts" at the National Wool Museum as Art Quilt Australia returns to Geelong.

Art Quilt Australia is a biennial juried exhibition/competition open to textile artists resident in Australia and New Zealand and @ozquiltnetwork members worldwide. The competition seeks to promote excellence and innovation in contemporary art quilts in Australia, with over $6000 in prizes!

Art quilts developed as a movement in Australia in the 1960s and 70s, alongside an international interest. It took quilts from their domestic origins and considered them as art works in their own right. Art quilts are now a major art force around the world with several galleries and museums dedicated to their display and study. The 37 art quilts in Art Quilt Australia 2019 were selected from 74 submissions and demonstrate a range of themes, design approaches, materials and techniques. However, as well as being contemporary art, they continue to tell us stories of our time and place.
Art Quilt Australia – now showing until 15 December 2019.

Meet Jan Mullen
Jan has an exhibition coming up at The December Gallery at 8/100 Stirling Hwy North Fremantle.
@artpresentations has just framed 40 works for her show which is themed “Seeds from Home”
It is a very personal exhibition reading the Artist Statement.
The amount of work that has gone into mounting the pressed flowers is just mad.
The works are very fragile, delicate and quite beautiful.
Jan is sharing the show with Sarah Pearn
The show will open December 1 at 5:00pm
It will continue through the month, Wednesday – Saturday 11am – 5pm
Artist Statement
My mother was not a gardener but in her latter years she spent many hours pressing flowers cut from the large, old, Melbourne garden that my father tended.
One of my sentimental choices of inheritance was a Tupperware container filled with tissues and between these soft white and pastel ‘leaves' the garden was contained.
Celebrating the unfashionable and the seemingly insignificant has become, to me, an important honouring - a link to the past with an understanding of the importance of unimportant.
Many of the tissues were pastel coloured - the colour mum loved to wear.
Note it in your calendar and get down and have a look
