Beth & Trevor Reid, Gowrie, ACT

Instagram: @bethandtrevor
E-mail: quiltmakers@ozquiltnetwork.org.au

We have always had an interest in textiles and made our first ‘quilt’ together in 1972, but it was not until 1988 that we began to take a serious interest in textile art.

A sampler quilt was made, we then began to experiment using a rich colour palette and hand stitch, then came the use of fabric paint and textural free motion machine stitch. We began to design together collaboratively and continue to do so. We enjoy the development process of our work and combined interest.

We have exhibited nationally and internationally and are represented in international and Australian private collections. Work in public collections includes the ACT Hospice, Parliament House Art Collection, the ACT Government Library Service and the ACT Heritage Library.

Blurring the Edges: Beth & Trevor Reid Moody Blues by Beth & Trevor Reid Hot Lava III Beth & Trevor Reid

Blurring the Edges

Retail Price: NFS
Dimensions: 180x180cm (H x W)
Statement:  Trevor’s diagnoses of cataracts inspired this design, with the blurred edges of objects and the diffusion of light as this condition takes effect. Utilising fabrics collected over the years to produce a piece with a spectrum of colour and light. Travelled with the Bernina Best of Australia exhibition 2018.

Moody Blues

Retail Price: NFS
Dimensions: 118 x 67 (H x W)
Statement:  As it ages denim becomes soft and velvety and the colours become subtle. This piece ‘Moody Blues’ true to its name, graduates with natural fading, from dark hued denim through to lighter almost white shades, the grain, which is prominent, is used to create movement and variation within the design.
Exhibitions: SAQA Upcycle 2019
Photographer: Beth Reid

Collections: Hot Lava III (triptych)

Retail Price: NFS
Dimensions: 180 x 165cm (H x W)
Statement:  Collecting appeals, the objects provide interest on a number of levels, their shapes, individuality, colour and the story behind them, it all becomes part of the process, its colour, interesting shapes and amazing thick lava like glazes provided the concept for the process behind these quilts
Exhibitions: tACTile Travelling Exhibtion 2007
