Judy Hooworth, Morisset, NSW

E-mail: judyhoo1@bigpond.com
Instagram: @judyhooworth1

Judy’s been creating art quilts for more than 30 years. A tutor, author, lecturer and judge she has shared her expertise with students in Australia and overseas. She has exhibited widely in Australia and overseas; her quilts have been featured in many books and magazines around the world, and she has written three books on quilt design. Judy is represented in public and private collections including the Powerhouse Museum Sydney and the Museum of Arts and Design New York. She received the Quilters Guild NSW Scholarship 1994, and a professional Development Grant from the Australia Council 1995. In 2012 Judy was presented with the Rajah Award for “her outstanding contribution to Australian quilting.”

Judy lives in the Lake Macquarie area between Sydney and Newcastle. Her main body of work is influenced and inspired by her surroundings, particularly Dora creek which flows near her home. She is interested in linear patterns, colour and mood caused by changes in the weather day to day. She is a keen bushwalker and photographer and is passionate about the preservation of her local environment.
Judy’s quilts encompass discharge, drawing, mono printing, painting and wax resist techniques and are extensively quilted.
