Daena is a disabled artist based in Rolleston, New Zealand. Who relocated to Canterbury from Wellington and has spent the last few years finding her voice and working out how to use it. She spends much of her time day or night in her studio working on various fabric art projects.
Diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 5 and autism when in her 30s after spending the majority of her life questioning why she didn’t fit in and why things didn’t make sense for her, quilting became a way for Daena to process thoughts and concepts that she couldn’t otherwise put into words. She now uses art quilting both as a way to deal with her disabilities and to create bridges between her and her audience.
Daena is an award-winning artist who has exhibited nationally and had her work included in selected international exhibits
