Wilma Cawley of Canberra arrived in Australia in the early 1980s from Holland. She has completed Diploma in Visual Arts and Design Practice. She is known for her whimsical quilts, which are often bold and colorful to draw the viewer in, so they can discover hand stitching and often the use of buttons.
The batik background fabric has been waiting to be used in Wilma’s fabric stash for a few years. After retiring from nursing, Wilma felt a freedom, as the “chain” of not always having the time to express herself, had gone. Her “reaction” to this newfound freedom is on show in this artwork Chain-Reaction (40 x 40 cm).
