The work of South Australian textile artist Zara Zannettino focuses on the often overlooked or invisible natural wonders that are captured through the prism of either a macro or microscopic lens. Her art is an intersection of her former microbiology background, nature walks and her photography. Zara also gains joy by resolving the challenges of working with textiles and threads.
Zara’s art often identifies the intrinsic beauty, patterns and subtle diversity found within seemingly identical natural forms. In doing so, she draws attention to a subject’s unique physical attributes. Zara feels that by appreciating these differences, it reinforces her belief that all aspects of life have a unique and crucial place in the world.
Zebra finch thrive in Australia’s sunburnt arid centre and every individual is unique in its markings. When united in a flock, they are stronger together.
