Linden Lancaster is primarily a quilt maker, who works from her rural home in the Riverina district of Northern Victoria, Australia. Linden’s work arises from her stack of ‘ideas’ books filled with sketches, song lines, poetry, colour notes, techniques and her own photographs.
Over the last 20 years Linden has built a foundation of techniques to draw upon. Each piece of work generally begins with a concept, then the decision is made on how best to make it come to fruition.
This often begins with hand dyeing, print and painting plain fabric and/or combining them with commercial fabric from her stash. The piece is then finished with some sort of stitching, by hand and most often free machined quilted on a domestic machine.
The gold-dust wattle is a favourite of mine. It survives the harshest conditions and explodes into luminous masses of yellow in early spring.
