Brenda Wood’s work often reflects her love of the water. In her 20+ years since becoming a textile artist, she has been able to explore a multitude of mediums and topics, with the ocean and its environs often making an appearance.
She exhibits regularly and has won prizes for her works. Her work is held in private collections domestically and internationally.
Creative mediums she’s used include screen printing, ceramics, acrylics, fabrics, pen and ink. However, fabric and paints, combined with drawing and stitch, a love of colour and a preference to make her own path, influenced her towards choosing textile art as her preferred medium. The tactile nature of this art form and its limitless potential lets her explore dimensions, subject and form.
The colours of the mahi-mahi are fluid. They change with vibrant greens, iridescent blues, shiny silvers and of course vibrant yellows, as they get excited due to chromatophores connected to their nervous system. And as they pass these colours fade to soft grey. Often known as ‘Dorado’, Spanish for gold.
