Beth and Trevor Reid made their first textile together in 1972, a patchwork bed covering. After pursuing many different crafts they joined Canberra Quilters in 1988 and began working with textiles. They made quilts that were a little bit different, sometimes together, sometimes individually.
They began to collaborate seriously for the first time in 1998 for a Canberra exhibition where a number of diverse textile artists including felters, weavers and silk painters were asked to produce a version of an Australian stockman’s coat in their particular medium. They continue to enjoy working together gathering inspiration from many different areas including the natural environment, they like to use colour and stitch as a visual stimulant.
Australia’s non –deciduous trees mainly eucalyptus, drop their leaves throughout the year much to the annoyance of tidy gardeners and pool owners. The leaves often lay in a thick carpet around the base of these trees, home to a multitude of bugs and spiders.
