Susan Mathews lives and creates at Ocean Grove, Victoria. Her drawings of Australian native flora and the natural environment are the basis for all of her work. She likes to underline the key role that drawing can play in creating original work in her classes.
Over five decades she has experimented with numerous art and textile techniques. Printmaking is a major passion, and she explores ways to successfully integrate printed images with her own individual methods of creating stitched textiles.
Printmaking on paper has been the main focus for a few years. Susan enjoys the challenges inherent in collagraph, monotype, linocut and silk screen printing and interpreting images using these techniques.
From a series of lino prints on fabric which grew from gathering drawings for the design from my many sketchbooks of Australian plants that I have created over the years.
