It’s just five weeks until the Ozquilt Network touring members’ exhibition Australia Wide Eight premieres at Warwick Art Gallery from 24 July until 27 August 2022 with the official opening on Saturday 16 July. In this AW8Preview series of posts we will introduce you to each AW8 artist. Today we start with Dianne Firth of Canberra.
Dr Dianne Firth is a registered landscape architect and academic. She has also followed a parallel pathway with textiles. As well as learning sewing skills from her family, she also studied textiles at Newcastle Technical College while studying for her Science degree at university, and later at Glasgow Art School when she was working in Scotland. Dianne has been a member of Ozquilt Network for many years, has enjoyed serving on committee and now as its President.
Most of Dianne’s ideas derive from her training as a landscape architect and are a direct response to environmental issues and the way she observes and understands natural processes. She uses principles of abstraction to manipulate line, shape, colour and texture to capture the essence or mood of her subject or idea.“
