In today’s preview of Art Quilt Australia 2023, we feature Thoughtful Consumption by Charlotte Scott of the Bay of Islands, New Zealand.
“My first skeleton quilt was about the horror that is fast-fashion: wasteful, polluting, unethical. The follow-on quilt is about exploring solutions to the fast-fashion and textile dilemma, and what personal changes I can make. Apart from the batting and the thread, this entire quilt is made from upcycled textiles.”

Charlotte! Reading your blurb about fast-fashion wastefulness sets off a loud gong of recognition in my head, as a fellow maker/artist who relies largely on cast-off fabrics to create not only quilts, but garments. It’s thrilling that your gorgeous work and concepts are getting a wide audience through the AQA – – – congratulations!
