Carol Sonogan, Benalla Victoria

Began quilting in 2009, and discovered art quilting that year in a workshop with textile artist Jan Preston. Influences are mainly the natural Australian environment and its diverse representations. Currently exploring techniques including silk painting, eco-dyeing and surface construction. Free-motion machine embroidery is a favourite method.

Retail Price: NFS
Dimensions:  66 x 42.5cm ( 26 x 16.75in)  (H x W)
Statement:  The quilt design is an abstract sketch of my own perceptions of shadows beneath the surface dots of Mick Namarari Tjapaltjarri’s painting Marsupial Mouse V. (Benalla Art Gallery). My own embroidered words tell the story of the artist and his subject. Small dots have been stitched to reference the dot painting technique.
