AW9 PREVIEW: BERNARDINE HINE @bernardinehine_art

AW9 PREVIEW: BERNARDINE HINE

@bernardinehine_art is a Sunshine Coast artist, working in textiles and mixed media. Her work is very much about the local region. She makes field trips to photograph plants, landscapes, birds, and insects and uses these images as inspiration to then create her artwork from. This ranges from art quilts working larger scale to small thread paintings, showcasing the beauty of our wonderful flora, fauna, and local landscapes. She uses paints, inks and dyes to colour the fabric, with the details then embroidered free motion on a domestic sewing machine with a multitude of threads.

Bernardine was one of three jurors for Australia Wide Nine and put forward A Variegated Pair (40x40cm) as her invitational work.

Australia Wide Nine will premiere at @fabrik.arts , South Australia from 8 November to 8 December 2024 and continue on tour until September 2026. Official opening at 6pm Friday 8 November. All welcome - please RSVP to the gallery!

AW9 PREVIEW: LINDA BALDING Linda Balding is a Now

AW9 PREVIEW: LINDA BALDING

Linda Balding is a Nowra textile artist working with print, dyeing, fabric and threads. In her art practice, Linda works with the tactile nature of fabrics, the clarity of print and the variety of natural dyed hues, to highlight the beauty of the bushland environment. Living in the forest on the NSW South Coast allows her to watch and be inspired by the continual change in colour and patterns in nature. Recent work has explored using eucalyptus leaves and other plants from the bush to eco dye silk, wool, cotton, and paper to capture the unpredictable images left behind by the dyeing process. The dyed pieces are then developed further using her own screen-printed designs. She often uses quilted layers of fabric with the surface embellished with hand and machine stitching, woollen threads, wire, cord, or foil to create a feeling of depth and focus.
