Combining unique fabrics with a variety of up-cycled materials, the inspiration for Marie Mitchell’s work revolves around her lifelong passion for the environment and human rights. Delicately woven within each work is a dialogue between ideas, materials and process. In Disconnected Habitat, memories of the horrendous ‘Black Summer’ habitat loss were fresh on Marie’s mind:
An aerial view of the Western wheatbelt prompted a new perspective on small patches of green below. While vital to the health of agriculture, these critically endangered, fragmented and scattered ecological communities only received protection in 2015.

Australia Wide Seven premieres at Belconnen Arts Centre from 30 October until 18 December 2020. The opening is at 6pm on Friday 30 October. All welcome!
