Artist's Statement

My current work is machine pieced and machine quilted and may include machine appliqué, various printing techniques, hand dyeing, fabric painting and machine embroidery. Some works are pieced improvisationally with the work taking on its own form as it grows. Others are developed from drawings and all are finished with dense machine stitching often incorporating contrasting threads, metallics and thicker threads so that the stitch and thread is an integral part of the design. I explore new media and innovative techniques on an ongoing basis and also work on paper and canvas.

Australian flora often features in my work along with bold colour and original fabrics. I am fascinated by the forms of plants and like to explore subjects in depth and therefore have a number of ongoing themes and series I am developing. I have worked with textiles for as long as I can remember and continue to explore techniques and extend my knowledge and skills with undiminished passion. 

I have exhibited extensively in Australia and also overseas and have won many awards. I have eight solo exhibitions to my credit, the most recent one being in Melbourne in 2003. Since the year 2000 I have been part of a small group of artists known as ZigZag, the other members being June Brown and Yvonne Voss. We meet together to challenge  ourselves artistically and have had two exhibitions both of which we have travelled around Australia.
