Artist’s Statement

My current quilts are expressions of place. I moved from Sydney to Lake Macquarie a couple of years ago, when a lack of studio space and access to my fabrics accelerated a major shift in direction. The new work is inspired by my new surroundings, particularly Dora Creek which flows nearby. SHIFT SERIES is a continuing exploration of landscape. The quilts are made from stitched and quilted cotton which I paint front and back with acrylic fabric paints.
As well as creating large quilts, I make smaller works and small collages using improvisational techniques.
I am also known for developing new design and colour concepts with my bright and bold adaptations of traditional quilt patterns; these are explored in my books Spectacular Scraps and Razzle Dazzle Quilts. I am currently working on a new book due for release in late 2007.
