I have moved on from the regular grid format of traditional quilts. The rough geometry of nature and the looseness of aboriginal art suggest the shapes and divisions of the quilts. The colours and visual texture are influenced by the Australian landscape. They express a sense of place. The history of Australian quiltmaking is another source of inspiration, bush quilts are reinterpreted in a contemporary fashion. The fabrics themselves sometimes demand a particular design that would otherwise be overlooked. Most quilts are made in series so that variations on a theme can be explored.
