State of the Art Quilt
August 27 – October 3, 2010 – Boonah Regional Art Gallery
Twenty five quilts, representing the diverse range of art quilting in Australia today, have been selected by jurors Dianne Firth and Helen Sanderson for the second STATE of the ART quilt exhibition which features outstanding work by members of Queensland Quilters Inc. Today’s quilters are stepping out from traditional constraints and using techniques such as painting, oil stick rubbing, fabric dyeing and screen printing to create fabric to use in their original work. Hand embroidery and machine stitching and quilting are comfortable partners in today’s expressiveness along with the raw edge and frayed fabrics. Nature and news events are popular themes for the entrants but some have also chosen to portray the interior dialogue of human emotion and experience.
