Art Quilt Australia 2013: Call for Entries
Closing Date for Entries: 19 July 2013
Exhibition Dates: 31 October -14 December 2013
Ozquilt Network Inc, through its Art Quilt Australia exhibitions, seeks to promote the best of Australian art quilts. The first Art Quilt Australia exhibition was held in Canberra in 2009 at Craft ACT Craft and Design Centre. From 31 October to 14 December 2013, Art Quilt Australia: people, place and nation will also be exhibited at Craft ACT Craft and Design Centre.
To align with the centenary of Canberra celebrations in 2013, Art Quilt Australia has selected the theme of people, place and nation. Australia is a nation of diverse peoples, landscapes, plants, animals and climate, and Canberra is the place where all Australians and the nation are represented. This theme offers artists the opportunity of a wide range of responses and interpretations.
The curator, Valerie Kirk, Head of Textiles at the Australian National University will select works. She will consider the design of the piece in relation to the theme; formal aspects of design such as composition, colour, texture and structure; choice of fabrics; and making and construction. Acceptance will be given on the basis of digital image submission. However, the artist is also asked to write a brief statement about how the theme People, Place and/or Nation is incorporated, relates to, informed, or inspired your work. Entry is open to full members of Ozquilt Network Inc and all Australian artists. Large quilts are preferred but must not measure more than 2 metres in either direction.
