About Alison Schwabe
Alison was born in Australia in 1946. She has lived in many parts of Australia’s Outback and several cities, and from the late ‘80’s spent 6 years in the USA. There, contact with makers of traditional quilts prompted her to use fabric and stitch in original, non-traditional quilted textiles art.
One current body of work features designs employing fluid organic seaming with hand and machine quilting. Another features repeated units of applied leather surrounded by hand and machine quilting, to which has recently been added burned detailing. Her work is regularly selected for prestigious exhibitions within Australia and overseas, and is held in several private and public collections.
