Annabelle Solomon phoned the local council, owner of the gallery that is to be the venue for the 're-fabricating the future' exhibition. She was amazed to be told that the dates (booked well in advance) had been changed so that the gallery could be closed for a week to be painted. Other exhibitions were affected as well. She wrote the following report. Editor

I am still in a bit of a state of shock that the dates have to change for a bunch of bureaucrat painters! (Definitely no allusion to those who paint on canvas!) It will be lovely to have the gallery painted afresh but what about doing it over the summer break when the gallery is closed? We sometimes feel that we are lucky to still have the building for a community gallery, since it is council owned - at least we are assured they can't demolish it, because it has been classified as heritage.

I had prepared flyers for distribution with Ozquilt Network Newsletter. The news that the dates are now incorrect is most unwelcome. I've decided after much angst and deliberation to simply cross out dates on the front and put a sticker of dates on the inside - all that time and effort and it's starting to look like a mess! Not to mention the other places where the wrong date is now published! I did consider getting the brochures reprinted and sending the bill to the council, but wonder whether such a 'statement' might end up costing me more!

I realise that I will not be able to reach everyone who has received earlier promotional material and will now have to rely on word of mouth to spread the message.
