Margaret,

Just a quick message to thank you for articulating so well your thoughts on art in quilts. (Ozquilt Network Newsletter Issue #34, December 1999). For so long I have been laughed (scoffed) at, over the idea that traditional quilts can be art just as some art quilts are not. I think that we all have to remain very open minded and remember that although a portrait painting is a traditional type of painting it can still be a work of art.

A traditional quilt can be a pure masterpiece. I had an interesting discussion this morning with our nineteen year old son on the appearance of us all moving so fast in our lives. The reason that this appears to be happening, (in his eyes) is that with so much invention and technology, we always have to remind ourselves where we have come from before we move on. I feel that we need to do this in our quiltmaking.

Remember where we have come from so that we can move on. Thank you again for your article.
